Low E-commerce Sales? Check For Decision Fatigue

If you run an online store, you should be mindful of decision fatigue.

Have you ever turned on Netflix, spent 40 minutes just trying to pick something to watch, then not picking anything at all, turning off the TV and heading to bed? That’s decision fatigue!

A similar thing happens to shoppers on e-commerce stores too. Endless scrolling, but no purchases.

When you can’t make a ‘good’ decision on what to buy, you simply avoid making that decision completely or you delay making it.

So how do you solve for this? To start-off, you need to understand the problem isn’t always the customer.

It could be the user journey!

Your user journey needs to support your customers making an informed decision. The faster you can do that, the better the conversions!

Here’s 5 questions to screen your online store on:

- How efficient is the search filter?
- How well have you categorized products?
- How great is the navigation? Especially on MOBILE!
- How many products have you listed? (Sometimes, less is more)
- How long does it take a random person to purchase something they like from your store? (2 mins? 10 mins? 40 mins?)
